How to make a Lavender Relaxing Eye Pillow

This is a great pillow to make if you have trouble sleeping or frequent headaches. Lavender is known to ward off anxiety, calm your nerves, relax your mind and reduce headaches. Not to mention it is just a completely dreamy wonderful scent!

Making a lavender eye pillow: Materials: lavender (1 cup) Flax seeds ( you can also use rice which is what I will be using for this tutorial.) Satin (a silky, cool fabric works best but you can use organic cotton or any other fabric)   Cut your satin into a a rectangle (10x4 but you can modify this to any length)

Turn fabric right sides together and sew with a 1/4 seam allowance. Leave a two inch opening.

This is what you should have!

Turn fabric inside out. Stuff with lavender and flax seed (or rice) but only fill half way. You do not want to over stuff your pillow. OPTIONAL STEP: stuff the lavender in muslin tea bags or you can make your own out of tulle or netting. Hand sew the opening and ta da!!!!!!! You've made a wonderful, relaxing, lavender eye pillow! Enjoy!! :)

Amy butler Floor Inspired Pillows

I just love Amy Butler! I love her fabric and adore her pillows! I wanted to make a beautiful floor pillow but didn't have her pattern so I did some trial and error and discovered it was very easy! Just cutting triangles and sewing together. here's what I did:

Materials:
1: 1yard of fabric (all different patterns...Amy butler patterns of course!)
2: triangle template (you can make this on your own)
3: Two buttons

To make your own template I measured the triangles 6" across (the top) and 11" down.

Cut out 12 of these for the top pillow piece and 12 for the bottom pillow piece. So you need 24 triangles total.

Arrange your triangles to make a beautiful pattern!

    Iron your triangles

If you want your pillow to have a pattern I suggest numbering your triangles in order on the back of the fabric. Things can get a little hectic with 24 triangles all over your work space!

Now take 6 triangles and sew them right sides together.

Take your other 6 triangles and sew them right sides together.
You want two halves of 6 triangles. So two pieces (each having 6 triangles)

Now sew the two pieces together to make a circle. Make sure you sew them right sides together.
Do not worry if your ends do not match up perfectly, the button solves that problem!!

This is what you should have so far.

Button Time! Sew your Button in the center. This gathers all the ends and makes your circle look neat and complete!

  LOOKING PRETTY!

Now repeat all steps with your other twelve triangles.

You should now have two circles. (both with buttons!)

Sew the two circles right sides together. Pin to keep in place. Leave one panel open (about 3 inches).

Hand stitch the opening closed, use pins to help you.

CONGRATS!!!!!!! YOU ARE DONE!!!!!!!

Enjoy!! :)

How to sew a Circle Floor Pillow

I LOVE CIRCLES! So it seemed only natural I make a circle floor pillow for my children. It's not as hard as you think :) here's how!

 Materials:
1: 1 yard fabric
2: 2 packages of maxi piping
3: fiber fill
1: Turn fabric inside out. Measure out your size circle as a 17" diameter and trace onto wrong side of fabric. Cut two of these.

2: With your remaining fabric measure out a rectangle 9x 51". I had to sew two pieces together to make mine long enough.

3: Start pining your piping around the edge of your circle. Have your raw edge of the piping facing outwards.

Overlap the ends and pin in place.

Do this to the other circle. Now you're ready to sew!

5: Sew piping on both circles.

Starting to take shape!

6: With right sides together, pin your long rectangle piece onto your circle (top piece)

7: Do the same now to the bottom piece.

OPTIONAL STEP:
I never like to throw away scraps, hence the name Satin Pieces! So I try to always use up extras. What I did here is take the remaining pieces of Bias tape and sew them on each end of the pillow to make a handle.

8: Turn right side out and make sure all stitches are secure and all looks pretty with your pillow. Now the fun part...STUFF IT! :)

9: Hand stitch the opening and you are finished!!!! Now you're little one can have a comfy seat all to his/her own :)

Enjoy!!

How to sew an adorable house Pillow

I saw a set of adorable village pillows, (or tower pillows) and thought..."hey I can do that for my little girl" and I did! You can too!
Here's what you need:

Materials: 1: scrap fabric (any size, all size!)
2: Ribbon, Rick Rack, decorative trim ect.

3: button
4: fiber fill

5: hot glue gun

1: First make a long rectangle with your scrap fabric for the main tower piece. Cut two pieces.
Face right sides together and sew along
the bottom and sides BUT LEAVE THE TOP OPEN.

2: Now take another piece of scrap fabric (looks bests if it's a different design) this will be your roof. Draw a triangle on it. Cut out two pieces and face them right sides together. Sew along the sides and bottom but leave an inch opening to turn it right side out.

3: Now stuff your main tower piece and roof piece with fiber fill. Close up the bottom of the main tower piece. I used a zig zag stitch because I find it looks more whimsical. Do the same to your roof piece. Sew the roof on the main tower piece. Starting to look like a little house! how exciting!

4: Take a piece of rick rack or ribbon and measure it so it fits around the bottom of the roof. Hot glue gun in place.

5: Now cut a door and a window out of two more pieces of scrap fabric and hot glue onto the tower.
Add a button to the door for a bit of charm :)

AND TA DA!!!!!! YOU'RE DONE!!!!! You can make a bunch of them to create a village or add little ribbons to hang them on your little girl's wall or door handle. If you make one send me a picture, I love seeing the different designs people come up with!

ENJOY! :)
